Lyn Cooke
Contemporary Jeweller
Lyn Cooke is inspired to design jewellery from sources from the natural world,
which display a fascinating mixture of pattern and irregularity, texture and sculptural form.
The finished work will never be a copy of nature, it will be an abstraction.
She is currently exploring the effects of a variety of extreme treatments on plain silver sheet and wire – hammering, melting and fusing, folding and twisting, curling and drilling.
This gives the finished work its own identity and ensures originality since it is difficult to replicate each process.
In her work, she challenges the notion that precious metal should be treated with reverence; distortion enhances the qualities of the silver.
“Precious” does not have to shine and her work is the antithesis of “bling”.
